Partly cloudy skies and breezy summers temps welcomed the final race of the 2017 SCOTT Enduro Cup presented by Vittoria at Deer Valley Resort in Park City. Over 200 athletes were treated to four stages of fast and loose trails on day one of the two-day event. A pair of Utah natives, Cody Kelley and Angelica Ramirez, lead their respective pro/open divisions through the first day of competition.
The opening day challenged riders on Deer Valley’s tough terrain of TG, Twist & Shout, Devo and Thieves Forest.
Kelley, the 2017 overall points leader, finds himself in familiar territory – leading the pack. He sits in first place with more than a 40-second cushion heading into the final day of the season. After posting the best time on each of the four stages, he recorded an overall time of 18:02.498. Kelley will look for his third win of the season after topping the podium in Moab and Sun Valley.
Ramirez, leading the women’s pro/open division, is building on an impressive 2017 circuit in her home state. She enters Deer Valley in fifth place in overall points coming off her best race, a fourth place finish in Sun Valley. Ramirez finished in the top three of all four strages, including winning the final two of the day for an overall time of 21:05.800. She continues to carry momentum with her from the 2016 season, as well, when she won the expert division. Now competing with the pros, Ramirez will look to add another first place finish to her resumé.
A decisive day two is set to kick off with pro and expert riders descending approximately 3,600 vertical feet before the 2017 overall series winner and Deer Valley stage winner are crowned.
