“The course was super fun and technical, not too burley, not too physical,” explained Schnell. “It was more physical than most enduro races. You’re riding around with your buddies then go super hard for six minutes, and it was just like a group ride. The first Enduro race here at Mag 7 was a good test of future events and Mountain Sports International pulled it off with style.”

In addition to $2,500 total in prize money in the Open category, racers in the Amateur and Junior categories received product from presenting sponsor Bell helmets and Tefosi Optics. Many racers also received prizes in the raffle, which raised $580 for Grand County Trail Mix. Raffle prizes were provided by Bell helmets, Tefosi Optics, Club Ride, Ergon, Canyons Resort, Snowbasin and ENVE Composites.

“The event was incredible. To have a race in this community is pretty top notch,” remarked Irmiger. “I’m coming off ten years of cross country world cup racing, but this year I’m only doing enduros.”

This was the first stop of three in the new Enduro Cup series. Inspired by it’s incredible success, Wasatch Enduro has been expanded to a new Enduro Cup series. Enduro Cup will provide more opportunities for athletes to compete on Utah’s incredible mountain bike terrain. The next stop at Canyons Resort will be held July 19-20. The final stop will take place in August (Date/Location TBD).

“We are incredibly excited by the turnout we had in Moab. It has been the perfect start to the season,” said Enduro Cup Event Director Dan Roper of MSI. “Competition in all categories was stellar. We are eagerly looking forward the second stop at Canyons Resort which is sure to sell out.”

The popular Magnificent 7 area, know as “Mag 7″ features flowy trails with a combination of great Moab red rock and dirt. The timed segments of the race are all descending but at a low angle, so fitness will be a key component for a good result. Enduro Cup at Canyons will give riders the opportunity to compete with the nation’s best riders at the third stop of the North American Enduro Tour. Canyons’ trails offer rowdy single track unlike anything else in Park City where riders can reach speeds upwards of 40 mph through off-camber, rooty sections sure to challenge the most skilled rider.

“The feedback we have received from riders about this new series is really incredible,” said Enduro Cup Event Director Dan Roper of MSI. “MSI is fortunate to be a part of this emerging discipline of bike racing.”

Registration for the Enduro Cup at Mag Seven opened Monday, March 11. Registration for Canyons will open Monday, March 25 at 7pm MDT. Participation cost is $80 per event for adults and juniors. Racers can also opt to purchase a three-race pass for $210 (a $30 discount). All registration will take place at www.athlete360.com.

Renowned cyclocross and enduro racer Ali Goulet has teamed up with Salt Lake City based event marketing agency Mountain Sports International to create a new Enduro Cup three stop series. Enduro is the most progressive form of mountain bike racing which is hugely popular in Europe and gaining incredible interest in the United States. Inspired by rally car and motorbike enduro racing, enduro mountain bike racing is an all mountain stage race where riders compete to gain the lowest accumulative time from several downhill sections of the course.
